The Steam Train
I recently had the pleasure of taking a steam train ride through Niles Canyon in Orinda, California. The Niles Canyon Railway is a historic railway that offers scenic rides through the canyon on vintage steam engines and diesel locomotives. It was an unforgettable experience that I highly recommend to anyone visiting the Bay Area.
The journey through Niles Canyon was beautiful, with stunning views of the surrounding hills and the Alameda Creek. The steam engine and diesel locomotive were both beautifully restored and maintained, and it was clear that the crew took great pride in their work. I could hear the chug of the steam engine and the whistle blowing as we passed through tunnels and over bridges, all while enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. The crew was knowledgeable and friendly, providing commentary and answering questions about the history of the railway and the surrounding area. I learned about the importance of the railway during the California Gold Rush and how it helped to connect communities in the East Bay.
Whether you’re a local or a visitor, there’s always something new to discover. So, hop on a steam train in Orinda and then explore all the wonders that the Bay Area has to offer.
