These CA cities letting owners sell ADUs as starter homes

California's housing landscape is shifting with new legislation promoting innovative solutions like Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). Some cities now allow homeowners to sell their ADUs separately from their main residences, following San Jose's lead in mid-July. Sacramento, Berkeley, and San Diego County are also considering similar measures.

Assembly Bill 1033, passed last year, allows homeowners to treat ADUs as separate properties, akin to condominiums with distinct titles and shared obligations. This move not only expands housing options but also provides new opportunities for homeowners in the housing market.

These initiatives mark a progressive step in addressing California's housing challenges by offering more affordable options and flexibility for property owners. Stay tuned as these developments unfold, promising a brighter future for accessible housing in California.
